NBC News reported that an “experimental drug” has arrived in Liberia, to be tried on one infected charity worker from the US. No confirmations have been made as to which drug is being used but there are several in development, including Tekmira Pharmaceuticals’ TKM-Ebola Phase I which was recently put on hold as the company addresses US Food and Drug Administration concerns.

Quidel Corporation (NASDAQ:QDEL) received clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration to market its AmpliVue GAS Assay, which is used for the qualitative detection of Group A β-hemolytic Streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes) nucleic acids isolated from throat swab specimens obtained from patients with signs and symptoms of pharyngitis, such as sore throat.

Calgary to Allow Commercial Medical Marijuana Grow Operations

The Calgary Sun reported that the city is slated to allow commercial medical marijuana grow operations as long as they comply with regulations set out by the city of Calgary and Health Canada. Regulations include having proper security and ventilation with operations being located at least 75 metres from residences.

Mouthwash Linked to Oral Cancer

Daily Mail UK reported that heavy use of mouthwash could increase risk of oral cancer. Dr. David Conway, of the University of Glasgow Dental School suggests that people should not routinely use a mouthwash, and instead stick to brushing and flossing.
